Cold Weather Tyres

Reduce costs to your fleet as the cold sets in

ATS Euromaster are experts in tyre management and safety, providing invaluable support to car and van fleets of all shapes and sizes. With harsh weather ahead of us, we’ve developed our new Cold Weather Tyre Service to keep your fleet on the go in all conditions.

Average Temperature in UK since 1980

Widely used across many Northern European countries, cold weather tyres offer many benefits over summer tyres once the temperature drops to 7°C and below. Not only do they provide more grip and traction on wet and cold roads but also significantly reduce braking distances. Summer tyres in the same conditions become harder, less ‘elastic’ and consequently suffer from reduced performance.

Cold weather isn’t just about snow and ice. For the last 50 years the UK’s mean temperature during winter months has consistently been 7°C or below. Even when there isn’t a snowflake around, you’ll benefit from cold weather tyres. When temperatures start to dip in October get your vehicles fitted and keep your fleet running safely and efficiently right through till April.

Cold hard facts about cold weather tyres

Even in countries like Holland where cold weather tyres are not a legal requirement, almost 50% of the population chooses to use them for safety, performance and handling.

Cold weather tyres have a higher percentage of silica in the rubber compound, preventing them hardening and becoming ‘elastic’.

  • Dramatically reduces braking distances
  • Improves grip, handling and cornering
  • Less danger of aquaplaning
  • Increases tyre mileage by 20% (Internal test compared to MICHELIN Agilis 81 Snow-Ice)
  • Helps improve driver safety

There are 6,393 more accidents involving cars on the UK’s roads in winter than there are during the summer months.

Making the change

ATS Euromaster can make the changeover from summer tyres to cold weather tyres easy by fitting them at your local centre.

Cold weather tyres - what's stopping you?

The primary changeover periods will be at the beginning of October and April each year.

To help make the process easy we offer the option of storing the removed set of tyres for you, ready for the next seasonal change. Fleet management reports can be provided including information on changeover times, additionally we can support you in driver notification of the seasonal changeover period.

During each seasonal change, a new valve will be required and each wheel will require balancing.
