30 years and going strong
“We have worked with our local ATS Euromaster service centre in Falkirk for more than 30 years and see them as an extension of our team. Some of the managers we deal with today were tyre fitters when we first started our partnership and it’s one of the reasons why we continue to work together today – trust and experience.
In this climate, we have to be innovative in every way we work. The pence per kilometre (PPK) structure we have with ATS Euromaster enables us to monitor costs, work smarter and helps deliver savings which have a direct impact on our bottom line. It also allows us to forecast exactly what our tyres will cost us based on the distances we know the fleet will cover.
What’s more, with such a large fleet operating to all corners of the country, we have total peace of mind that in the event of a tyre-related breakdown we can call on the back-up of the largest truck tyre experts in the UK – whatever the time of day or night.”
Iain Mitchell, Managing Director
John Mitchell Haulage & Warehousing
From its origins in 1956 as a company with just a single lorry, John Mitchell Haulage & Warehousing has grown to operate 110 commercial vehicles and 230 trailers – whilst earning industry-wide respect as one of Scotland’s most prestigious operators. Testament to its leading reputation was Managing Director Iain Mitchell’s achievement in being named Scottish Road Haulage Personality 2009.
Business Requirement
This family owned haulier operates a primarily tractor unit-based fleet, coupled to an extensive line-up of trailers including curtainsiders, flatbeds, skeletals and power tankers, all of which can run at up to 44 tonnes.
To support its significant heavy truck operation the company requires the back-up of a service supplier and tyre manufacturer which can work together to offer:
- A PPK-based structure to spread the cost of tyre ownership
- High quality brand fitment for maximum reliability and safety
- Commitment to professional tyre husbandry
- Ability to regroove and remould to enhance environmental credentials
- Monthly fleet checks to monitor tyre performance
- Emergency roadside assistance nationwide
ATS Euromaster’s Approach
Innovation and dependability are central to ATS Euromaster’s relationship with John Mitchell Haulage & Warehousing, which has been a customer since the mid 1970’s.
In 1992, the customer became one of the first road transport operators in the country to adopt a PPK approach to its tyre requirements – something it has continued ever since.
The fleet also benefits from the latest tyre technology on the market – including the fitment of Michelin XDN2 Grip drive axle tyres. These feature a self-regenerating tread pattern which ensures that a tyre which is two thirds worn continues to offer similar grip levels to that of a new tyre. This proves particularly beneficial when driving in adverse weather conditions.
ATS Euromaster’s Solution
Tyres throughout the John Mitchell Haulage & Warehousing fleet are supplied, fitted and serviced by technicians from ATS Euromaster in Falkirk, backed-up by access to the largest mobile tyre fitting fleet in the country. The policy includes:
A commitment to brand policy adherence. Over a period of 12 months*:
- 94.64 per cent of new tyres fitted were Michelin
- 99.21 per cent of remould tyres fitted were Michelin Group products (Remix or Encore)
Unrivalled tyre husbandry expertise to boost longevity, maximise reliability and reduce the fleet’s carbon footprint. In the same period ATS Euromaster carried out:
- 318 regrooves (maximising the most fuel efficient state of the tyre’s life)
- 118 major repairs
- 272 minor repairs
- 99 wheel swaps (twinning)
- 76 turns on the rim
Of the 1,490 instances of tyres being removed, just 79 were worn out. 426 were remoulded and added to the casing back, and 1,064 were repaired, regrooved or added to the part-worn stock.
