SP Holding Group is a diverse and complex organisation with operations ranging from a commercial vehicle MOT bay to a shooting and equestrian shop. Its site comprises several acres of fields, a van and truck rental and contract hire fleet, a 700-strong plant and equipment hire division (including 250 items of construction and groundcare machinery), a waste disposal fleet, a metal workshop and Renault truck dealership (acquired in 2009).
It owns/operates everything from rigids and artics to agricultural mowers, diggers and 35 tonne excavators.
Business Requirement
The complexity and diversity described above determines the type of tyre management service the company requires. The tyre service provider needs to be able to cope with tyre sourcing, supply and fitment, tyre replacement and maintenance on a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
Not every service provider would be able to handle this requirement and still deliver best value. SP Holding Group also tasks its service provider with minimising downtime, conducting regular fleet inspections on-site and giving application-specific advice on the tyres required in each area of its business.
ATS Euromaster's Approach
The company uses the total fleet list to ensure that its Telford centre (just five miles from SP Holding) is stocked with the correct inventory of tyres and that technicians are trained to give professional advice on all the customer’s vehicles and equipment (not just vans and trucks, but 4X4s, plant, equipment and agricultural machinery). Their advice will be tempered by an understanding of the operational role and likely annual utilisation of the relevant equipment/vehicle.
For example, ATS Euromaster technicians are trained to advise on machinery in the farming and groundcare industries where special tyres are used to minimise surface damage and where the optimum pressure on any one tyre may change from one task to another. They also advise on the tyre ranges that deliver best mileages, for fitment across the commercial vehicle hire fleets, and damage-resistant tyres (from Michelin and Continental) for waste disposal and construction equipment where the risk of damage is higher than normal.

This is an unusual business requirement and only a substantial company with a significant skills-base and in-depth training programme could be expected to take on the responsibility. For ATS Euromaster it represented an opportunity to showcase the scale and calibre of its expertise across several different sectors of industry.
The range of services on offer includes fitment, maintenance and repair of tyres across the waste disposal, commercial vehicle rental and contract hire and plant hire fleets; weekly inspections with written reports and scheduled service work; regrooving and remoulding of truck tyres to minimise environmental impact and maximise value; turning tyres on the rim to balance out uneven wear and wheel alignment.
Services such as 24/7 rapid response breakdown coverage and access to the mobile fitting fleet are extended to benefit all SP Holding Group's rental customers. Contract hire customers also receive fleet inspections and comprehensive tyre management from ATS Euromaster at their own sites.
