What Is Wheel Balancing?

Incorrect balancing not only causes vibration in the steering wheel and dashboard, but wrongly balanced wheels can also cost you money! Incorrect balancing also causes premature wear of tyres and rapid wear of suspension parts.

If you find that your steering 'wobbles' above a certain speed, this may be a sign that your wheels are not balanced properly. If left, this can not only be uncomfortable to drive, but may affect the performance of your vehicles.

Get your wheels checked

You should also have your wheels checked or balanced after an impact such as a kerb, pothole or stone, when a tyre looks abnormal or every 10,000 miles.

In ATS Euromaster Service Centres, the latest balancing equipment allows wheels to be balanced with great accuracy, to the nearest gram.

Road Holding and Handling Characteristics

Correctly balanced wheels will provide you with the proper road holding. Imbalanced wheels can cause your steering wheel to feel as if it is vibrating when you are driving along, giving you an uneven and "bumpy" ride when driving at fast speeds. In turn, this affects the steering and the braking of your vehicle, and overall leaves you with poor handling over your vehicle.

Fuel Economy

It is important to keep your wheels correctly balanced, as the incorrect balancing of your vehicle wheels will greatly reduce your fuel economy due to tyre rolling resistance. Not only will correctly balanced wheels save you considerably on your fuel economy, but also on your carbon emissions.

Suspension and Steering Components

Imbalanced wheels directly affect your steering wheel and your brakes, and thus the suspension of your vehicle. The vibrations caused by improper road holding adds a great amount of strain to the suspension on your vehicle, which if ignored, causes premature wearing to the suspension and tyres; fixing these issues is costly!

Contact your local ATS Euromaster centre to book a wheel balancing check.

Tyre against uneven and increased wear

Incorrect wheel balancing can cause premature wearing of your tyres due to the vibration and the uneven road treading of your vehicle. Ensuring that your wheels are correctly balanced will allow for the greatest possible lifespan of your tyres, saving you a considerable amount of money in future.

When purchasing tyres from ATS Euromaster, we will always ensure that your wheels are correctly balanced due to the incosistency in the rubber compounds.
