New tyre policy minimises repair costs for industrial fleet
National multi-product hire specialist Hewden provides rental equipment including forklifts, cranes, bulldozers, powered access platforms and generators. This includes a fleet of 16 JCB rough terrain forklifts which operate from its branch in Grangemouth.
These rough terrain forklifts are used almost exclusively on one major customer's site, where they are frequently exposed to the risk of tyre damage from foreign objects on the site's tar and concrete surface. This had previously seen technicians called out for tyre repairs up to three times a week, accounting for a significant percentage of the branch’s overall tyre expenditure.
"ATS Euromaster's recommended fitment has helped us notably reduce punctures which has resulted in less downtime and improved fleet productivity."
"Not only have they saved our customer hundreds of pounds each month in repair costs, but the quadrupled average tyre lifespan is having a lasting impact on our own operating costs. It's a prime example of a supplier adding real value to our business."

ATS Euromaster's Approach
ATS Euromaster recommended a Michelin Power CL fitment, highlighting that its robust tread pattern and durable rubber compound would increase its capacity to resist punctures and tearing. The local ATS Euromaster team also offered to closely monitor tyre performance, enabling Hewden to quantify the increase in uptime and cost savings achieved with the fitment.
ATS Euromaster's Solution
Since the first Michelin Power CL tyres were fitted nearly two years ago ATS Euromaster's advice has returned outstanding results:
- Quadrupled the fleet’s average tyre lifespan, from 5 months to approximately 20
- Significantly reduced the frequency of tyre damage – only a handful of instances to-date
- Cut repair costs to an absolute minimum
- Enabled a surge of productivity across the fleet, benefiting Hewden’s customer
- Reduced operating costs for Hewden’s Grangemouth branch
