ATS Euromaster has become one of the first national tyre specialists to be accredited by SAFEcontractor, an independent organisation which assesses the health & safety competency of contractors and service providers.
Many large organisations now use SAFEcontractor as their primary means of selecting suppliers, especially in situations where service providers are visiting their premises to carry out work.
Chris Hufflett, Group Operations Director at ATS Euromaster explains: “Clients have a legal obligation to ensure that external contractors and service providers working on their premises operate in a safe way. This means they cannot run the risk of employing firms which are not able to prove they have sound health and safety policies.
“This is something which is very much top of the agenda within ATS Euromaster, and we felt that offering SAFEcontractor accreditation would help to highlight our rigorous health and safety best practice to both existing and prospective customers,” he adds.
The nature of ATS Euromaster’s business, with a 1,000-strong fleet of mobile service vehicles, means that its technicians regularly operate at customers’ sites. This can range from carrying out a fleet check through to fitting new tyres, in environments including company car parks, distribution centres, warehouses or even on a construction site or farm.
ATS Euromaster’s accreditation to SAFEcontractor saw the company undergo an in-depth vetting process, which examined current health and safety procedures and the firm’s track record for safe practice, including policy, risk assessment and first aid. It also checked ATS Euromaster held the relevant public, product and employer’s liability insurance.
SAFEcontractor is operated by international safety, health and environmental risk management specialists, Connaught Group. Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database which is accessible to registered users, via a website www.safecontractor.com
These registered users, which include nearly 130 major blue chip clients, are able to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on the site, with the automotive, transport and distribution sectors being amongst the primary users of the scheme.
