Clearway Distribution Trials New Tyre Policy

09 Mar 2009 13:14

Nottinghamshire-based Clearway Distribution, a founder member of the Palletline network, is trialling a brand new tyre policy across its fleet of 42 commercial vehicles and 80 trailers.

The agreement sees Clearway Distribution switch to a Michelin fitment policy managed by ATS Euromaster, which is designed to deliver efficiency savings across the fleet by ensuring maximum mileage performance from each tyre. This is made possible by combining Michelin’s unique Four Lives scheme together with an active programme of good tyre husbandry, with monthly fleet inspections to ensure all tyres are maintained in the best possible condition.

Gary Chamberlain, Transport Manager at Clearway Distribution, explains: “I will be monitoring the performance of the joint ATS Euromaster and Michelin package very carefully over the next 12 months, but am confident it will demonstrate real added value to the fleet.

“As part of the new agreement we also benefit from the introduction of electronic tyre inspections, which automatically generate reports that enable us to monitor the performance of our tyres, right down to their individual tread depths.

“Having access to such detailed management information provides a perfect fit with the massive investment we’ve made in our own IT infrastructure and replaces a paper-based tyre inspection system operated by our previous supplier,” he adds.

The new contract will see ATS Euromaster supplying new Michelin tyres as wear dictates, which will in turn be regrooved, remoulded into Remix tyres and regrooved again to deliver the best possible performance from each Michelin tyre casing.  ATS Euromaster is also able to deliver enhanced value by remoulding existing Bridgestone tyres fitted across the fleet through Michelin’s Encore facility in Stoke-on-Trent.

All routine tyre maintenance, such as adjusting tyre pressures, turning tyres on the rim and regrooving, will be carried out by ATS Euromaster’s mobile technicians at Clearway Distribution’s two principal operating sites in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire and South Normanton, Derbyshire.

As part of the contract, Clearway Distribution will also have access to a specialised fleet of 250 frontline rapid response vehicles which are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide nationwide emergency roadside assistance in the event of a tyre-related breakdown.
