FTA launches company car driver handbook

31st May 2012

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has today (May 31st) launched a new guide designed to provide advice to motorists operating company cars on a regular basis.

Entitled the Company Car Drivers' Handbook, the guide has been created to help motorists ensure they operate company vehicles responsibly, while adhering to road traffic rules and any relevant health and safety legislation.

The new guide has been sponsored by Shell and comes with the endorsement of the Association of Car Fleet Operators (ACFO).

An essential tool for the planning and management of regular journeys in a company car, the handbook features easy-to-read information on driver licensing and vehicle checks.

The guide also provides tips on safe and fuel efficient driving among other things.

Owners are also provided with blank pages in which to write notes and details of emergency telephone numbers in the event of a breakdown.

Sally Thornley, the FTA’s general manager of Compliance Information Services, said: “We have produced this publication as a direct result of requests from our members.

"Designed to be used in conjunction with an organisation’s specific policies, such as on mobile phone use or dealing with accidents, it should help anyone who drives a car for business purposes stay both safe and within the law.”

A hundred of the guides have already been ordered, with more likely to follow upon its release.
