Pirelli tyres director of motorsport Paul Hembery, has welcomed the suggestion of using different compounds during qualifying for races in the upcoming Formula One season.
The 2012 World Championship is set to begin in March, with Pirelli unveiling its new tyres at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi on January 25th.
Qualifying tyres were last used in the sport during the 1991 Formula One season but Mr Hembery today (January 16th) welcomed a potential return to the practice.
Speaking in an interview with EspnF1, Mr Hembery admitted that he was "willing to work with everybody to find a solution" to suggestions that qualifying tyres could be re-introduced.
"For the future we'd happily do it, if the sport wants it and the teams want it then we're happy to come up with some solutions for qualifying," he said.
The call comes in the wake of a 2011 season that saw some teams opt out of setting a lap time during the final part of qualifying in order to save tyres and maintain strategic position.
