Dorset to host opening round of Pirelli’s British Rally Championship

23rd February 2012

Pirelli Tyres are set to be put through their paces once again in Dorset, with the south coast region hosting the opening round of the MSA British Rally Championship.

Over the coming weekend, rally crews are to take on 12 stages covering 66 miles of track along the Wareham and Ringwood Forest Complex.

As part of a sponsorship deal for the event, Pirelli tyres will supply asphalt and gravel specification compounds to the Ford, Citroen, Skoda and Renault crews competing in the six-round championship.

Drivers will be able to use 15" Pirelli K6 tyres on gravel tracks while 15"-17" RX7 tyres and RE7 tyres will also be offered on asphalt events and N3 tyres will also be available in 15" for wet asphalt tracks.

The event will start at Poole Quay on the evening of Friday February 24th where a special ceremonial start will signal the beginning of the event.

Speaking to Tyrepress, Pirelli Tyres UK motorsport manager Carl Naylor said: “Last year’s ceremonial start saw the seaside harbour packed with over 10,000 spectators who were keen to meet the drivers, get up close to the cars and collect autographs.

"It was a fantastic start to the season and I am certain that this year’s event will be no different," he added.
