Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali believes getting to grips with the new Pirelli tyres used in the sport this season will be key to their revival.
The Italian racing team has made a mixed start to the 2012 World Championship, with drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa both eager to make an impact.
Last weekend's Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai demonstrated this, with former world champion Alonso finishing in a lowly ninth position.
The result was a major set-back for the Spaniard who had previously taken the chequered flag at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Massa meanwhile finished outside of the top ten at the event and remains under pressure to perform for Ferrari following last season's lacklustre campaign.
Speaking to ESPN F1, Mr Domenicali said that the team needed to "get the most out of the tyres, both in qualifying and in the race," if they wanted to succeed at this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix.
"Understanding when and how much can be got out of the tyres has been the key factor to this first part of the season," he added.
Qualifying for the race begins on Saturday.
