F1 constructor Ferrari is set to introduce its new car for the 2012 racing season by early February, as the Italian team look to get to grips with the new Pirelli tyres used in the sport.
Last season proved one to forget for Ferrari and its drivers, as Red Bull’s Sebastien Vettel swept all in front of him aside to claim the championship crown.
Worse still, the performance of the Italian team on the new tyres introduced by Pirelli was disappointing with the manufacturer slumping to third in the constructors’ championship.
Spaniard Fernando Alonso managed just one win all season while Felipe Massa’s position in the team came under fierce criticism.
However, Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo provided some optimism at the team’s Christmas party yesterday (December 21st) where he confirmed a new car was in development.
Felipe Massa will no doubt be eager to prove himself and has already got the backing of Mr Montezemolo to achieve great things with the new compounds in a new Ferrari car.
"I'm confident that with a new car he'll be able to warm up the tyres faster and be competitive again,” he said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.
