The Formula One teams competing in this World Championship season look set to finalise the three sets of Pirelli Tyres to use in the first three races of the campaign.
There are just over two weeks left until the start of the 2012 Formula One season, which will mark the second year in which Pirelli tyres have been used in the sport.
With the championship set to begin in Australia, this week's four-day practice season in Barcelona could see many teams finalise their choice of tyres.
Scheduled to run from today until March 4th, the practice session will see drivers tested to the maximum on the famous 4.655-kilometre lap Circuit de Catalunya.
But while drivers will be eager to get to grips with the new compounds, Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery believes much of the focus will be on deciding which tyres will be used in not only the first but the first three races of the year.
"We're likely to see the teams test the tyres that they will use for the first three grands prixgrand prixs at Barcelona, with the accent switching to race preparation rather than new car development," he said.
"Once again we have the full range of tyres available for the teams to test, which have been specially designed for the definitive specification of 2012 cars."
The Formula One racing season is scheduled to begin with qualifying on March 17th.
