Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery has outlined the tyre manufacturer's intentions for the new compounds set to debut in Formula One this season.
The new Pirelli Tyres were unveiled to Formula One teams and the public yesterday (January 26th) as part of a special launch event in Abu Dhabi.
The Italian manufacturer has been the centre of attention in the world of Formula One in recent weeks, as drivers and construction teams awaited the new tyres.
These newly unveiled compounds have already had pundits and fans talking too, with the designs proving softer with the four different compounds used being closer together.
Pirelli are hoping that the new tyres will help to increase the competition in the sport, following two years of dominance from driver Sebastien Vettel.
Speaking after the release of details on the new designs, Mr Hembery said: "We want a lower gap between compounds, with the slower tyre degrading slightly less.
"Then teams will have to make a decision on which tyre to go with."
The new Formula One season begins in March, with former champions Damon Hill already backing Jenson Button to succeed on the new tyres.
