Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg was the fastest driver during the pre-season test event in Barcelona this morning (22nd February).
The German star recorded a best lap time of 1:22.608 on Pirelli's super-soft tyres, around 0.040 seconds ahead of Sauber's Sergio Perez – who completed his laps on the same compound.
Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel was the third-fastest driver at lunchtime, recording a time of 1:22.891 on soft tyres, ahead of Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso and McLaren star Lewis Hamilton who both opted for medium tyres.
The Red Bull driver has been impressed with the performance of the McLaren drivers during the pre-season test sessions.
"I haven't seen all the lap times yet, I have only had a couple of looks on the long runs that Lewis did – they seemed to be quite interesting," said Vettel.
"Obviously I can judge for myself that the feeling [on my car] is fine but I don't know whether that is good enough or not. I think the McLaren looks quite competitive."
Ten of the 12 teams competing in the 2012 Formula One championships are running at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya until Friday, with Marussia the only team yet to try out their new car.
