McClaren driver Jenson Button has revealed his eagerness to master Pirelli's new tyres during practice in Barcelona this week.
It is now less than a month until the opening race of the 2012 Formula One Championship in Melbourne on March 18th.
Until then Button, who finished a distant second to German driver Sebastien Vettel in last seasons’ championship, will no doubt be eager to impress on the Pirelli tyres.
Button got his first opportunity to test out the compounds in Barcelona this week, after taking over the Mercedes-power challenger from teammate Lewis Hamilton.
With just one day of testing in Barcelona left, the British driver was eager to complete as much racing as possible, clearing a total of 114 laps in a time of 1:23:918.
The time left Button placed fourth on the timesheet – but still hungry to compete.
Talking after the practice session, Button said: "We’ve also been really working hard to understand this year’s Pirelli tyres and getting the car to work efficiently around them. That’s a key part of the programme this winter."
With Button focused on mastering the new compounds, Vettel could soon have a major challenge on his hands from the British driver.
