Karthikeyan’s F1 ambitions hampered by Pirelli tyre issues

16th August 2012

Indian F1 driver Narain Karthikeyan has confessed he's still adapting to Pirelli's controversial 2012 tyres, joining the chorus of drivers who have experienced difficulties with the fast-degrading rubber.

In a recent interview Karthikeyan expressed his desire to match HRT team-mate Pedro de la Rosa in qualifying times, but added getting to grips with the Pirellis had proven a learning curve.

"The tyres have been quite difficult to get used to and Pedro has a lot of experience with Pirelli and McLaren. He's a very good driver who hardly makes mistakes and I must learn from him to improve," he said.

Despite criticisms from high-profile racers such as Jenson Button and Michael Schumacher, Pirelli recently confirmed it will not be changing the current tyre compounds for the remainder of the F1 season so as not to disrupt team performances.
