Japanese Formula One (F1) star Kamui Kobayashi is hoping to adapt to his car's Pirelli tyres in order to boost his qualifying performance.
The Sauber driver is currently ahead of his team-mate Sergio Perez in the drivers' championship but the Mexican has a better record in qualifying over the course of the season.
Speaking ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix, Kobayashi revealed that he is aiming to gain a better understanding of the Pirelli tyres in order to start from higher up in the grid.
"I think we have had a pretty good season: we had good direction from the start and nobody expected us to do so well. But at some point I have to adapt myself better to the tyres," he told Autosport.
"I have had a lot of problems warming up the tyre, so [qualifying] is where we look for speed."
Sauber currently hold a one point advantage over Torro Rosso in the constructors' championship going into the final race of the season.
