Lotus team owner Gerard Lopez has revealed he is relishing the prospect of seeing his team return to the Formula One track this weekend and remains confident that they can stand up to the test of the Pirelli tyres.
Mr Lopez made the assertions in the wake of his team's efforts last time out in Bahrain, when Lotus finished with two drivers on the podium.
It represented the first time since 1979 that the team had featured two drivers in the top three, with the team owner evidently impressed with the performances of new pairing Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean.
Speaking to the Press Association, Mr Lopez said: "It's really exciting, we've confirmed we've a good car and a good pair of drivers."
Meanwhile the Lotus man remained wary of the high-degrading compounds that have dominated much of the pre and post race commentary.
"The tyres are unpredictable," he said.
"But at least we know it's a car that can perform. If the third set of tyres had delivered a more aggressive performance it might have been good enough, but it proves our car is certainly up there."
Pirelli tyres have come under heavy criticism from former world champion Michael Schumacher of late, who described racing on the compounds as feeling like driving on raw eggs yesterday (May 8th).
