Mercedes-Benz Formula One boss Norbert Haug has revealed that the team has been working around the clock to ensure they perform better on the Pirelli tyres set to be used at the Chinese Grand Prix.
Mr Haug was speaking ahead of this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai, which will see Mercedes duo Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg competing for points towards the World Championship.
The pair have endured a rotten start to the season, scoring just a single point between them from the opening two races of the campaign.
This comes despite both Schumacher and Rosberg enjoying a promising start to qualifying that saw them begin races challenging for the front row.
Subsequent analysis has pointed to the team’s lack of experience on the new Pirelli tyres, with high degradation and overheating both problems for the motorsport team.
However Mr Haug believes that these problems could soon be behind them.
"Since the last race in Malaysia, the team has conducted analysis of our tyre usage during the first two rounds, and how we can improve,” he said.
“The Chinese Grand Prix will provide an answer on our progress, although weather conditions and circuit characteristics will be different to either Melbourne or Malaysia."
