New tyre rules being introduced this year for the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) series will be the biggest challenge facing drivers ahead of the new season.
That is according to Audi's Mattias Ekstrom, who believes that tyre regulations will have more of an impact on the touring car championship than any of the other changes being introduced this season.
Under new rules, all cars participating in DTM, which is based in Germany but also includes rounds in other European countries, will use larger wheels and wider tyres.
Autosport.com reports that the two-time DTM champion said the new wider tyres change the required driving style and the feel of the car.
"There are many things you can't judge at the moment because we haven't driven the final version [of the new car] yet," he added.
One former DTM driver that British audiences will be familiar with is Paul di Resta. The 2005 championship winner is currently plying his trade in Formula One with Force India.
