A new generation of tyres has been unveiled for the 2012 British GT calendar, in a bid to improve the speed of vehicles around the circuits.
According to Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, which produces the Avon GT range, the new compounds will shave approximately a second off lap times when compared to previous incarnations on most British GT tracks.
Mike Lynch, technical manager at Avon Tyres Motorsport, said that the range is designed to offer speed but also durability, in support of team strategies involving longer intervals between pit stops.
He said: "The new tyre has been developed using a wide range of cars so we can be sure that it will suit the range of cars we have in the British GT Championship.
"It is a more consistent, faster product and will provide a more stable drive so our drivers should feel more comfortable when pushing their sports cars to the limit."
Avon has been exclusive tyre provider for the competition since 2006 and British GT Championship manager Benmjamin Franassovici said that it provides behind the scenes and on-site support.
"As the cars evolve, so does the championship and its partners," he added.
The new tyres will be used for the first time at the 2012 championship launch event in March. The first competitive race will take place the following month, at Oulton Park, from April 7th to 9th.
