Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery has predicted that the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix could be the perfect setting for the firm's new tyres to perform on.
The prediction comes as drivers gear up for this weekend's Formula One race in Montreal.
Last time out in Monaco, Australian Mark Webber was the star of the show, taking 1st place for the second time in three years of racing on the principality-based circuit.
Heading into Canada it is all to play for though, with just three points separating the trio of Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and Webber.
Speaking ahead of the race, Mr Hembery predicted that the upcoming event could see the Pirelli tyres created for the current campaign come into their own.
“Tyres have traditionally played a very important role in this race, especially if it rains," he said.
"The soft and supersoft tyres should be able to demonstrate more of their natural characteristics than they were able to in Monaco, where drivers are constrained by very low average speeds and not much energy going through the tyre."
Ultimately though, Mr Hembery noted that the practice sessions would provide more answers.
