Vitaly Petrov has partly attributed his success at the Japanese Grand Prix to his car's soft Pirelli tyres.
The Renault driver achieved a ninth-place finish at yesterday's (October 9th) race in Suzuka after adopting a different tyre strategy to many of his rivals.
Petrov started on the medium compound but switched to soft tyres for the final laps of the race, allowing him to surge through the field to secure two championship points.
"Ultimately, our target was to finish in front of Force India and this is what we achieved," he told ITV Sport.
"When I put on the soft tyres towards the end of the race I felt so much grip; I smiled then I pushed a lot! Then I overtook I don't know how many cars. It's a pity Sergio [Perez] was just too far ahead. Now we go to Korea looking for another top ten finish."
Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel secured back-to-back World Championships in Japan after finishing third behind Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso.
