Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli has revealed the logistical difficulties of delivering its tyres to Formula One teams across Europe.
During the European rounds of the F1 season, the firm delivers more than 50,000 tyres to 12 teams in nine different countries across the continent from its central distribution warehouse in Didcot, reports pressonhd.com.
However, the Pirelli tyres are produced at its facility in Turkey and therefore have to be shipped back to the UK under strict temperature conditions.
They are then randomly allocated to teams and delivered to their respective headquarters by Pirelli's fleet of transport vehicles.
Neil Booker, truck marketing manager at Pirelli UK, claimed that there is "little margin" for logistical error.
He told the news provider: "Pirelli's tyre service simply must be there in good time, each time.
"It's no surprise then that the truck teams have chosen the Pirelli:88 SERIES tyres for the motorsport fleet – for when it comes down to it, when you are carrying something precious, choose someone you can trust!"
Around 3,000 tyres are taken to each event to ensure teams have enough for practice, qualifying and the main race.
