Pirelli to debut F1 2012 tyres at young drivers’ event

15th November 2011

Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli is set to debut a selection of next season's tyres at the upcoming Formula One (F1) Young Driver test event in Abu Dhabi.

The firm tested an experimental soft compound during the practice session of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and is set to trial more compounds at the three-day young driver test on the Yas Marina circuit.

The new tyres are designed to distribute wear more evenly, while the softer compounds will be altered in a bid to reduce the chance of blistering.
Pirelli motorsport boss Paul Hembery has claimed that the firm is already looking ahead to next year as the championship race is now over.

He said: "Although the young drivers don't have the same experience as the regular drivers, this three-day test will be a good education for them.

"It's also very important in terms of information-gathering, for both ourselves and the teams, as we aim to make the tyres an even more prominent feature of the action in 2012."

Pirelli will supply each team with eight extra sets of tyres for the event to add to the 100 sets that they can use over the course of the season.
