Raikkonen confident over Pirelli tyres on Renault return

Former Formula One world champion Kimi Raikkonen is relishing the prospect of adapting to the new Pirelli tyres, which are set to be introduced on a full time basis from next season.

Raikkonen will return to Formula One following a two-year absence from the sport during which he has pursued his interest in Nascar racing.

During that time, Pirelli tyres have become a prominent fixture of Formula One racing, with the Italian manufacturer gaining particular praise for its compounds last year.

Next year promises to be even better too with Pirelli set to debut its new P Zeros tyres, which have been engineered to degrade at a faster rate, encouraging more tactical racing.

Raikkonen remains confident of adapting to the tyres though, after signing a two-year deal with Team Renault earlier this week.

Speaking to Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat, he said: "I haven't driven on F1 tyres for two years so I did not get used to something else. In this way it will certainly be easier.

"I have talked to my friend Pedro de la Rosa and from what he told me, they [Pirelli] feel pretty good, with good grip from the outset, which for me is important."
