Former Formula One world champion Kimi Raikkonen has made his unofficial comeback to the sport this week after practicing on Pirelli tyres.
According to reports, the Finnish driver was spotted driving in Lotus's two-year-old R30 car at the Ricardo Torno circuit in Valencia, Spain.
Raikkonen has been away from Formula One for three years, after pursuing a short-lived interest in the US NASCAR driving championships.
The 32-year-old was evidently keen to test out the Pirelli's new tyres, having no doubt spoken to his fellow drivers on the contentious subject of the Italian manufacturer's compounds.
He was able to gain experience on the tyres thanks to a special loophole that allows driving teams to practice on compounds in older cars, as part of the unofficial winter test season.
Raikkonen returned to Formula One on November 29th space 2011, after signing a two-year deal with the Lotus driving team.
Speaking in an interview last month, he explained that his main focus was getting used to the new Pirelli compounds used in the sport.
"Getting on top of the tyres will be the hardest thing, of course, but I'm not really worried," he said.
