Ricciardo: Improvement is down to better understanding of Pirelli tyres

27th October 2011

Formula One (F1) driver Daniel Ricciardo has attributed his improvement in recent races to his greater understanding of the Pirelli tyres.

The Red Bull junior driver is currently cutting his teeth in the sport with the HRT team and has represented them at eight races so far this season.

In Korea, Ricciardo finished ahead of Virgin driver Jerome d'Ambrosio, which are the main rivals with HRT at the back of the grid.

As HRT has not made any modifications to their cars, the Australian rising star has claimed that his knowledge of the tyres has helped him improve.

He told ESPN F1: "It's hard to pinpoint something, we haven't made any big changes. I think it's probably that, just subconsciously, I've worked the tyres a bit better in the race and given them a bit more life and performance.

"I guess setup on Friday has built up towards that as well. In qualifying it's always nice to be quick, but we're sacrificing a bit for the race which has been good for us."
