Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher has hit out at suggested plans for the introduction of a ban on all tyre warmers in the sport.
The German was speaking after reports emerged suggesting that the current use of warmers on the Pirelli tyres used in the sport could be abolished in a bid to cut costs in the sport.
Schumacher condemned these suggestions, warning that any ban would be a major mistake for the sport.
"I think cold tyres are for categories that have low power, maybe Formula Ford, Formula 3," he told reporters.
"But, quite honestly, Formula 1, being the pinnacle of motorsport, with the power that we have, with the speed that we have… no, I wouldn't like that idea at all."
The comments came after Schumacher, who currently drives for Mercedes following a surprise return to the sport following retirement, enjoyed his best result of the season so far after finishing third at the European Grand Prix in Valencia.
