Formula One racing legend Michael Schumacher has praised the new Pirelli tyres created for the 2012 World Championship season following the first day of testing.
Schumacher is set to begin his second season with Mercedes in a few months time, following his return to the sport last year after a brief spell in retirement.
In truth, the previous campaign was one to forget for Schumacher with Mercedes struggling to adapt to the fast-degrading Pirelli tyres adopted during the 2010-11 campaign.
This time round could be different though, with the German coming out with praise for the new tyres created by the manufacturer after trying them out during testing at Jerez.
Speaking at an interview after the practice, Schumacher was full of kind words for the compounds.
"They feel like a step forward, more consistent and comfortable to drive, and the biggest difference is with the rear tyre," he said.
"Thanks to everybody at Pirelli for their good job this winter," he added.
The 2012 Formula One season is scheduled to begin in Australia on March 16th.
