Understanding the dynamics of the various different Pirelli tyres will be one of the key challenges of the new Formula One season, Nico Hulkenberg has said.
The Force India driver believes that having the proper tyre management strategy in qualifying and race conditions will be fundamental to a strong start in the new season.
Although the 24-year-old has plenty of experience behind the wheel, his last experience of racing came two years ago with Williams in Abu Dhabi, so he has yet to take to the track with the new tyres from Pirelli, which were introduced to the sport last season.
Speaking to Autosport, the German said: "I don't know exactly how the Pirelli tyres will behave so I will make sure that I get all of the information I need to learn quickly.
"You need to get out there and do the races so that you can learn about them. On a theoretical basis, there is not so much that you can do. You have to drive and learn from it."
If Hulkenberg needs any advice or inspiration on his return to F1, he needs only turn to compatriot Sebastian Vettel, who stormed to the title last year, while also helping Red Bull Racing secure the Constructors' Championship.
