The European Tyre & Rubber manufacturers' Association's 2011 to 2012 annual report suggests 2011 was a good year for the European tyre industry, with production up 6.6 per cent overall from 2010.
Some 4.8 million tonnes of tyres were manufactured in Europe in 2011, representing 24 per cent of the global total.
Meanwhile, European replacement market sales increased by 4.21 per cent on 2010 levels, with 201.7 million units shifted during the year. A total of 289 million units of that went to replacement passenger cars and light commercial vehicle types.
Turnover for the European tyre industry reached 47 billion euros, an eight per cent increase on 2010, while Europe also exported tyres to the value of eight billion euros (amounting to 71.2 million tyres), a 16.4 per cent boost.
