Haulage operators across the UK must do more to ensure all waste truck tyres are disposed of in a responsible manner, according to the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA).
According to a report from HGVUK.com, the VOSA has expressed its concern at the high proportion of used compounds that are currently being dumped across the country by rogue collectors.
They are calling on tyre retailers and haulage firms alike to take action against this growing problem by carefully choosing their compound collector prior to handing over anything.
In particular, the VOSA believes drivers and tyre fitting firms alike should check whether the firm they are dealing with is registered as a member of the Responsible Recycler Scheme and whether they have all of the required paperwork from the Environment Agency.
This call comes just weeks after the BBC current affairs programme Panorama highlighted the ongoing problems related to tyre dumping in the UK today.
