DVLA to auction personalised registration for Mercedes 63-series

7th August 2012

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is preparing to auction an extra special personalised registration – for a car that has yet to hit the market.

Motoring enthusiasts across the world are awaiting the arrival of Mercedes SL 63-series – the latest luxury model to be produced by the German automaker.

And in a move that celebrates the arrival of the car , the DVLA is set to auction the number plate SL63 AMG – despite the plate only available for use from September 1st 2013, when the car is set to hit the market.

The plate will come with a £2,000 reserve and is one of 1,5000 personalised registrations set to go on sale over the three-day event scheduled to take place at Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey from September 6th.

DVLA personalised registrations’ marketing manager Damian Lawson said:  "Auctioning a registration so far in advance of its on the road date has never been done before, but as it is the sixtieth anniversary year of the SL we wanted to celebrate by offering the registration for sale now rather than have it sitting in our vault."
