Goodyear Dunlop testing tyres ahead of label rule change

10th May 2012

Goodyear Dunlop have already started preparing for new EU compound labelling regulations set to be introduced later this year – by testing over 2,000 of its tyres to ensure they meet the required standards.

The tests took place at the firm's Innovation Centre in Luxembourg, with 1,200 Goodyear tyres tested alongside 1,000 Dunlop tyres in order to ensure they are ready for the switch.

In total, these examinations cover some 70 different Goodyear compounds with 50 tyre types from the Dunlop range also undergoing the trial. The measures are being taken in a bid to make sure the compounds adhere to the new grading rules set to be introduced on November 1st of this year.

Speaking to Tyrepress, Xavier Fraipont, director of technology within consumer tyres at the firm, said: "We took the grading of all our tyres in relation to the new regulation very seriously.

"In total some 100 engineers and operators were put on the job, as you can imagine, with 1,200 tyres to test, we needed the manpower”.

Goodyear Dunlop are also launching new information campaigns via its customer facing marketing materials and website  in the hope of providing a clear overview on the changes set to be introduced.
