Goodyear Dunlop has unveiled its latest compound creations – two new concept passenger car tyres that could signal the start of a new era at the firm.
The two new tyre types were unveiled at the opening day of the Reifen 2012 show in Germany and have already got people within the industry talking.
Dubbed the Goodyear EfficientGrip AA edition and the Dunlop Sport BluResponse, these new tyres achieved an impressive A-grading in both wet grip and rolling resistance ratings under the new European Union tyre labeling system.
The new tyres will not be available for sale, but could prove a key step in the firm's long-term move towards greener product lines.
Commenting on the compounds, Goodyear Innovation Centre director Jean-Pierre Jeusette praised the "major breakthrough" the tyres had achieved in terms of reducing fuel consumption and improving wet braking performance.
"Our biggest challenge is now to work on the industrialisation of these new tyre technologies and sophisticated material mixes to make sure they can be produced on a large-scale," he added.
