South Korean compound manufacturer Hankook Tire has announced that it is set to supply new tyres for German automobile giant Daimler.
Hankook tyres are already supplied to its European counterparts BMW and Volkswagen, with this latest agreement representing a major milestone in the firm's western expansion.
While the agreement has yet to be confirmed by official sources, German newspaper Handelsblatt reported the deal on Sunday (June 24th).
No spokesperson was available for comment from Daimler, though the news provider did feature quotes from Jin-Wook Choi, the head of European operations at Hankook.
“Hankook has an ambitious goal. We want to penetrate the top bracket of the leading worldwide tyre manufacturers," he is quoted as saying.
"At present we are globally in seventh place and ranked sixth in Europe."
The announcement comes months after the firm announced that its new tyres were set to come as standard on the much-anticipated BMW 3-Series.
