Pirelli's cash injection into its Carlisle-based factory will create around 40 new jobs, it has emerged.
As previously reported, the tyre manufacturer has committed to further investment in its Cumbrian operations despite the tough economic climate, with a total of £20 million now earmarked for developing the factory.
The Pirelli plant will soon be offering both specialist and factory floor roles, with the new workforce helping to produce the Italian company's next generation eco tyres.
Engineering Manager Alan Wilson confirmed the jobs figure, stating he was "delighted Pirelli have given permission for this level of investment".
"This is by far the biggest significant investment we have had in many, many years," he said.
Pirelli already employs 850 people in Carlisle, while interest in the firm's apprenticeship schemes has also increased.
