The benefits of regular car servicing 12th September 2014

Car manufacturers recommend that their vehicles are serviced regularly. However, as it is not something that it is mandatory to do, as an MOT or road tax renewal is for example, a number of drivers may overlook this.

Nevertheless, getting your car serviced is important for a number of reasons. It is worth familiarising yourself with the benefits of regular car servicing.

  • Lengthening the life of your car By getting your car serviced regularly you will extend the life of your car. When neglected for a long period of time, certain parts of the car can cause others to get damaged. For example, if oil and fluid levels are not topped up regularly then engine components may incur damage. Additionally, if brake pads are not replaced then this could damage the brake calipers.
  • Decreased chances of breakdown As well as making your car last longer, getting a car service means that you will be less likely to have to pull up on the roadside due to breakdown. By topping up oil and coolant, for example, your engine will be less likely to fail the chances of your car breaking down will be reduced.
  • Improved fuel economy While regular servicing can seem like an extra cost, it creates savings when it comes to fuel. On average, a car service can prevent a ten per cent fall in fuel economy. This is because issues such as under-inflated tyres or wheel alignment that is off, which can be a greater drain on fuel, would be fixed during a car service.

Retain resale value When it comes to selling your vehicle, you are more likely to get a higher price if the buyer knows it is in good condition. If your logbook shows that your car has been serviced annually then its resale value will be higher than if it doesn't.

If it is time to get your car serviced then you can book into your nearest ATS Euromaster centre and choose either a standard or comprehensive service, depending on which best suits you.
