Avon Tyres has announced that it is to supply tyres to the aggressive-looking Carlsson-developed SLK 340 international hill climb race car.
The well-known tyre manufacturer has detailed that the vehicle will be installed with specialist hillclimb products, which have been created from the extensive knowledge that Avon Tyres has established from working in the category both in the UK and across Europe.
Sarah McRoberts, the marketing communications manager for Cooper Tire Europe, commented: "Like Carlsson, Avon remains committed to developing its products to the highest technical specifications so it's fitting that we come together on this project, as the Meisel Motorsport Team aims for success in 2013.
"Avon has a rich history in hillclimbing – as demonstrated by its relationship with the Avon Tyres British Hillclimb Championship – and we hope that we can use our expertise in the field to continue the progression of the SLK 340."
Details of Avon Tyres' involvement with the SLK 340 international hill climb race car come just weeks before the vehicle is given its world premiere at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
Designed and developed by the highly respected Mercedes tuning specialists, Carlsson, the vehicle weighs in at a mere 780 kilograms and makes use of a wide variety of industry-leading technology.
For example, this edition of the SLK 340 is styled with a carbon body kit and a lightweight braking system, both of which have substantially reduced the car's weight.
On top of this, Carlsson have thoroughly tested the vehicle's aerodynamics inside a wind tunnel, with the result being a race car that ensures optimum downforce when out on the track.
What's more, the SLK 340 international hill climb race vehicle also comes packed with a closed underbody. This feature works to optimise air resistance and make the car even more efficient come race day.
There is the aspect of the car's carbon body kit and lightweight braking system to consider too, which is able to boast a staggering 610bhp and offer a superb blend of extreme performance and technical prowess to anyone who steps behind its steering wheel.
Mr McRoberts was keen to stress: "What Carlsson has achieved in terms of developing the SLK 340 is quite staggering and they really have proven to be extremely pioneering in their approach to the vehicle."
The Carlsson-developed SLK 340 international hill climb vehicle will be displayed to the public at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show on March 5th, before becoming the new race car of Meisel Motorsport team principal, Reto Meisel.
Since beginning his career in motorsport back in 1989, the Swiss ace has achieved such highs as dominating the German Mountain Championship from 1999 to 2001 and being named the German Touring Car Hillclimb champion in both 2007 and 2009.
Meisel's next chapter of his glittering career in racing is set to begin in the summer, when he introduces the SLK 340 international hill climb race car to active competition.
