The ZZ5 pattern developed by Avon tyres has been honoured in the Fast Car Magazine Awards, which celebrated top performers in the automotive industry in 2013.
Avon's ultra-performance tyre can be fitted to a range of medium-sized and high-performance vehicles.
Fast Car gave the Long Lasting Performance Award to Avon in its 2013 honours roll for the ZZ5.
The magazine described the tyre, which has become a firm favourite among driving enthusiasts since its launch onto the market, as "British engineering at its best" when handing over the award.
Avon developed the ultra-performance tyre on a number of Europe's most famous race tracks, including the iconic Nurburgring, to build high-speed durability into the compound.
The ZZ5’s Intelligent Asymmetric Tread Design (IATD) feature imparts confident handling and traction, as well as promoting balanced tread wear and enhanced wet grip, to deliver superior performance without compromising on durability.
The inner shoulder has been designed to give high contact pressures to promote balanced treadwear and enhanced wet grip, while continuous central grooves ensure efficient water clearance and a wide continuous outer shoulder gives confidence to drivers.
Avon's ZZ5 also features highly loaded silica rubber formulation tread compound, which is combined with state of the art polymer technology for excellent wet and dry traction and handling.
The newly developed Tri-Arc mould shape is responsible for improved contact pressure distribution handling and balanced tread wear.
Sarah McRoberts, marketing communications manager at parent company Cooper Tire Europe, said it was great that the ZZ5 has been recognised for the Long Lasting Performance Award.
"It was designed with performance and long-lasting wear in mind and, in that way, it’s fairly unique in the performance tyre sector.”
