Compound safety group Tyresafe has called on motorists to stay vigilant when it comes to their tyres, particularly in the current weather conditions.
The advice comes as the UK continues to endure its wettest second quarter of the year since records first began way back in 1910.
With unusually high levels of rainfall being witnessed from April to June, Tyresafe chairman Stuart Jackson has urged caution when it comes to your compounds.
“Tyre tread depth should be checked regularly, whatever time of year, to make sure they can cope properly with wet roads," he said.
Mr Jackson urged motorists to perform their 20p piece check on compounds before driving.
This involves inserting the coin into the main grooves of the tyre. If the outer band of the coin is visible it may be advisable to head to a tyre fitting specialist for help.
