There is a huge amount of choice on the market when it comes to buying new tyres, which many drivers will be doing in the coming weeks, as we enter the new year and the snow and ice begins to make driving more difficult.
Continental's ContiWinterContact TS950 has topped the Which? Best Buy table this year, a prestigious accolade for the tyre manufacturer and its winter pattern.
The award highlights the exceptional performance of the winter tyre across a number of important criteria, as it secured a 70 per cent overall rating from the consumer champion.
Continental's ContiWinterContact TD950 features in popular models such as the Audi A3 and the Vauxhall Astra and was described as "hard to fault" by testers at the consumer magazine.
The ContiWinterContact TS850, which is one of the most popular patterns in the super-mini and medium size market, also performed well during the test for Continental tyres.
The size is fitted to cars such as the Renault Clio and Volkswagen Polo.
Which? said: “Our experts measured good grip on all surfaces: dry road, wet road, snow and ice. Fuel economy and tyre wear were impressive, too.”
The tyre offers motorists even better grip on wintry roads, as well as shorter braking distances in the wet, extended mileage and a further reduction on rolling resistance over its predecessor.
Peter Robb, brand manager at Continental, said: “The ContiWinterContact TS850 has taken the winter market by storm. In a string of tyre tests in Europe, the tyre has consistently beaten the best to take the top spot, we are delighted that the TS 850 has been recognised by Which?.”
As the weather begins to get colder and snow is forecast for the coming weeks and months it is vital that motorists are prepared for the challenges the changing conditions will present.
As well as fitting winter tyres, this means topping up screenwash and ensuring air conditioning systems and windscreen wipers are in tip-top condition.
