24th January 2013

Motorists have been told of the safest vehicles to have hit the market over the past 12 months, according to tests carried out by Euro NCAP.

The European new car assessment programme provider has detailed the best in class vehicles of 2012 after testing a wide range of new motors in four individual marking criteria areas – adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian protection and safety assist systems.

American vehicle giant Ford featured prominently in the line-up, with its Ford Kuga excelling in the Small Off-Road 4×4 category and the Ford B-MAX being applauded alongside the Fiat 500L where Small MPVs were concerned.

On top of this, Euro NCAP has released comparative tests results in the Business and Family vans category for the first time. With the Ford Transit becoming the first van to achieve a five-star rating last year, it was only fitting the vehicle was named best in class in this area.

Elsewhere, the stylish new Renault Clio was praised as offering outstanding safety performance in the Supermini category, while the luxurious BMW 3 Series excelled in the Large Family class.
