European sales of heavy truck tyres in the original equipment (OE) market grew slightly in November, according to new figures.
Tyrepress.com reports that Michelin Tyres saw a 6.1 per cent rise in this sector, while Pirelli also witnessed growth of five per cent.
The rude health of the OE market is good news for new car sales, but the picture was not as good when it came to sales of replacement tyres, with the two companies reporting year-on-year drops.
However, truck tyre shipments for passenger cars and light trucks were up noticeably in Russia during November, the new figures reveal.
According to the news provider, the market is currently one of the strongest in Europe for original equipment tyre sales, suggesting that more new vehicles are coming off the production line in the territory.
Analysing the fortunes of Pirelli Tyres and Michelin, who reported European tyre sales of three per cent growth and 2.9 per cent decline year-on-year in their latest market updates, it highlighted the inclusion of Russia in Pirelli's data as the main differentiator.
