Sales data for Pirelli tyres showed a mixed picture around the world in the first ten months of 2011.
According to new data, European sales with the company for truck tyre replacements were up three per cent during the period in question.
Original equipment (OE) sales – in other words, those tyres sold to manufacturers to fit to new vehicles – grew by 40 per cent in the year to date, however the European Rubber Journal reports that the figures suggest this growth has slowed in recent months.
For cars and light trucks, OE sales of tyres in Europe grew by four per cent during the ten-month period, with replacement sales jumping by five per cent in the same time frame.
In Asia, data was not available for October, but in the nine months to September, sales of replacement truck tyres fell by two per cent.
Japan, meanwhile, saw a surge of 16 per cent in replacement sales for trucks, while September figures showed OE sales have grown by 18 per cent in the first three-quarters of 2011.
Pirelli creates a range of different tyres for cars, motorcycles, trucks, buses and motorsports.
