Fleet managers should be aware of the quality and type of tyres fitted on their vehicles, according to an industry expert.
In an interview with Fleet News, Andrew Guile, key account manager for Michelin Tyre PLC, advised senior officials to research the tyres used on their fleet vehicles in order to make an informed decision on the matter.
He told the news provider: "In these days where duty of care and corporate responsibility are key issues, it is vital that a fleet manager should know enough about the tyres fitted on their vehicles so can they feel confident about driver welfare.
"There are so many different tyre makes, tread patterns, speed ratings and loadings that it is possible that an incorrect fitment could be made."
Mr Guile added that fleet managers can find out about tyres on specialist websites, while they should also have a basic understanding of key road safety regulations.
Meanwhile, Michelin is set to release its new Bibsteel range of compact line radial tyres for skid steer loaders.
