Goodyear Dunlop has opened a new test centre near the famous Nurburgring racetrack in Germany.
Based in Meuspath, the new 600 sq m tyre test facility will enable the firm to continue to develop its Dunlop tyres and train staff members.
It features a tyre mounting workshop and hydraulic lifts and will employ up to 15 test personnel during the height of its operations.
Jurgen Spielmann, general director at Goodyear Dunlop's Development Centre in Hanau, claimed that the nearby Nordschleife circuit at the Nurburgring will improve the standard of testing.
"Nowhere are test conditions as ideal as on the Nordschleife: 20.8 km, 73 curves and an altitude variation of almost 300 m – no other circuit is as demanding as the Nordschleife," he said.
"Hence this course in the Eifel qualifies as a yardstick for upcoming production models and the tyres fitted to them. Every kilometre on the Nordschleife is as hard as ten km on a normal road."
