Hankook unveils new eco-friendly tyre

15th November 2011

South Korean firm Hankook Tire has unveiled a new environmentally friendly tyre for fuel-efficient and hybrid vehicles.

The second-generation enfren eco is an all-season performance tyre which aims to offer a reduced rolling resistance and increased energy efficiency compared to its predecessor.

It features a high silica rubber tread compound which provides improved wet braking and dry handling performance and a solid centre rib to offer better steering and feel.

"Rising fuel costs and a heightened interest in the preservation of our environment are rapidly becoming more important to consumers," said Soo Il Lee, president of Hankook Tire America.

"Our new enfren eco will give consumers a choice when it comes to replacement tyres that focus on improved vehicle fuel economy and the environment."

In 2008, the first enfren tyre was launched in Korea before being rolled out to Australia and Japan over the following two years.

The new version, which features a leaf-shaped design on the tread, will be launched in the US early next year before retailing in other markets.
